The focus of
this workshop changes depending on the goals of the participating students.
Past workshops have focused on creating a larger scale painting for three
days. The condensed class schedule allows the students time to carefully
work through the process of creating a larger painting. The nature of the
class also includes more emphasis on creating a truly finished piece. Shorter
studies help to keep the students "loose" throughout the process. Topics
covered may include: the steps to setting up a still life; creating your
composition; the discipline of the painting process; creating paintings
with clean dynamic colors; painting what you see and not what you know.
Plein
Air Workshops
(Basic oil
painting knowledge is required, but no plein air painting experience is
necessary)
Beginning students
will learn the basics from easel set up and what to bring, to learning
to simplify the complicated shapes around them as a landscape painter.
Topics covered will include: choosing an image or site to paint; painting
the light; manipulating an image; painting what you see and more. We go
to a different site each day as agreed upon by the class members. Most
sites are local to Menlo Park depending upon the adventurous spirit of
our class members. An informal group critique will occur at the end of
each day. |
